OurTown.com's Student-Athlete of the Month: Jesse Berry

   LAFAYETTE -- Lafayette Jefferson's Jesse Berry, who is averaged 35.8 points in his first four games, is OurTown.com's first Student-Athlete of the Month.
    Berry scored a school-record 51 points in the Bronchos season-opener against Rossville and then scored 46 points against Frankfort last week to lead Jeff to the J&C Classic title at the Crawley Center.
    The junior, nominated by Jeff's athletic director Mark Preston, averaged 15 points a game as a sophomore and has been offered scholarships by Butler and Ball State.
    Jeff's Coach Scott Bunnell on Berry: "He has worked very hard on his defense and his all around game. He makes everyone around him better."

FC Indiana and Hoosiers FC merge to one soccer organization

Shek Borkowski announced that FC Indiana and Hoosiers FC have merged to form a new soccer organization that will be based out of Lafayette and Noblesville and retain the FC Indiana name.  FC Indiana announced Thursday that former Valparaiso University defender and current Wabash College assistant Tyler Pagano has been appointed FC Indiana Academy Coach. Get To Know Her - Maria Hernandez

Hernandez, who is currently the 29th ranked collegiate individual but finished last year ranked fifth, qualified for the Duramed FUTURES Tour this past November. Tour play begins in March, but Hernandez will not compete until June in order to finish her career with the Boilermakers.

Brees came so close to Marino's NFL record for yards passing that the New Orleans Saints quarterback won The Associated Press 2008 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award Tuesday. Brees threw for 5,069 yards, 15 fewer than Dan Marino's 1984 mark and only the second time someone has eclipsed 5,000 yards passing in a season. "I don't come out from week to week and say I have to throw for 300 (yards)," Brees said. "I don't think about that. It's really about what I can do to help this team win.

The performance marks Campbell's third double-double of the season and the ninth of her career. The Chicago native was 4-of-10 (.400) from the field and an unblemished 8-of-8 from the foul line.

Faith Christian School Faith Christian is celebrating two state titles among its fall sports this school year with crowns with volleyball and boys soccer. The soccer team went 20-3-2.
